the women's rights movement was a very significant social movement in the past, however there were many obstacles that these women faced. one of the main opposition was men. men opposed to women having the right to vote because they believed them to be inferior. it was suggested that women couldn't think out matters in a cooly and calmly. others believed that women's suffrage should not be allowed because they were happy with the way things were and didn't want things to change. they thought that if women have never voted before, why should they start now? some even further objections involved property. in 1900 few women were householders or lodgers. if the vote was given to them, then it would have to be given to men who were not householders or lodgers.
many people opposed to the idea of women's suffrage. they were known as the "antis".
they believed that
1. women would be corrupted by politics and chivalry would die out.
2. if women became involved in politics, they would stop marrying, having children, and the human race would die out.
3. women were emotional creatures and incapable of making a political decision.
as ridiculous as these reasons sound, they were taken very seriously back then by a number of women, including men.
